This double-sided card is adapted from a hand-coloured, early twentieth century illustration depicting Carl Linnaeus’s (1707–1778) classification of plants according to his ‘sexual system’. Linnaeus revolutionised the way in which we formally name plants and is known as 'the father of modern taxonomy'. N.B. the spelling of Linnaeus on our card, without the usual 'a', is on the original illustration.
