Block Shop is a collaboration between sisters Hopie and Lily Stockman, and a family of traditional printers and dyers in Bagru, India. Marrying a contemporary California aesthetic with a three-century-old block-printing process, Block Shop produces elegant, feather-light silk-and-cotton scarves in subtle, striking patterns. The entire production process is manual: designs are done on paper, the natural plant and mineral dyes are crafted in small batches, and wooden blocks are used for printing. Thus, no two textiles are exactly alike. Block Shop devotes 5 percent of its profits to developing community healthcare programs in India.
