Though she rejected the label of “feminist,” the renowned artist Louise Bourgeois frequently explored gendered themes and images. She also revisited her past in much of her work. The designs of the four plates in this series are drawn from Bourgeois’s 2004 book Ode à l’oubli (Ode to Forgetting), composed of collages of her clothing and other fabrics. Thus, these plates combine two of the domestic decorative arts often associated with women. Fine bone china, 25.5 cm diameter.
